Under the name "Brodo Presents", I'm curating the art on display at Swill Automatic, a winebar/ restaurant in downtown LA's Artist District.

James Graham:Piñata Portraits, our inaugural show, is a documentary project that takes piņatas, a local hand craft industry, as its subject. Graham has long been fascinated with the downtown piņata district ("la esquina de piņatas"), centered along East Olympic between Alameda and Central... (just a few blocks from Swill!). The piņata stands serve as a street level gauge of popular culture, a sincere expression of a community's shared fascinations, aspirations and desires. The exhibition features a series of portraits of a variety of piņata figures which are made with varying levels of expertise, some characters being easy to recognize and others more obscure. Also featured in the exhibition are three panoramic photographs that take in the visual cacophony of piņatas on display in one dizzying sweep.

Please visit Brodo Presents on Facbook for more information about the show.
